Justice Greg Garde was appointed as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Victoria in May 2012 and the President of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal in June 2012.
His Honour was appointed as a member of the Defence Force Discipline Appeal Tribunal in October 2016.
Justice Garde graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Pure and Applied Mathematics and Bachelor of Laws with Honours in 1972 at the University of Melbourne, signing the Victorian Bar Roll in 1974. He completed a Master of Laws in 1975. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1989.
He enlisted in the Melbourne University Regiment in 1967 and was commissioned as a Lieutenant in 1970. He undertook Regimental Service (1971-1981) serving in Papua New Guinea in 1971, and was the Commanding Officer Monash University Regiment (1982-84), Commanding Officer 4th/19th Prince of Wales’ Light Horse Regiment (1984-86), Commander 3 Training Group (1990-1992), Commander 4 Brigade (1993-94), Honorary aide-de-camp to the Governor-General of Australia (1993-94), Assistant Commander, Land Command (1995-98), and the Director General Reserves – Army, Canberra (1998-2001). He was promoted to Major General and appointed the Chief of Reserves and Head of Reserve Policy in 2001. He retired from the Army in 2014.
He was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in the Military Division in 1995, an Officer of the Order of Australia in the Military Division in 2005 and is the holder of the Reserve Forces Decoration with four clasps.
